| If all you want to do is watch the fireworks
as many do, there is a few things you want to know. #1 without
question is; stay on your home side of the Columbia River. The Interstate 5
bridge is going to be a traffic mess. On the Vancouver side, you can
really see and feel the fireworks on SE Columbia Way. This road is closed as
well as N. Grand Blvd, so the best thing to do is to park somewhere in down
town Vancouver and take a walk to Columbia Way. The police let people pass,
not vehicles. Then when you leave, you can use an alternate route, such as
follow Main St north and get on I 5 further up past the traffic jam. You
also can not park at the Inn at the Quay unless you have a reservation.
On the Portland side, you can see the fireworks all along Marine
Drive and all areas along here will be generally packed as well. If you are
able to park some where in the Jantzen Beach area, you can also walk down
towards the Columbia River and enjoy the fireworks. Again, many of the roads
are going to be closed and the hotels & motels also will not let you park
unless you have a reservation. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF THINKING YOU WON'T
GET TOWED! The tow trucks will be out in force and they do a great business
this night. |
