Fort Vancouver 4th of July Fireworks Show in Vancouver, Washington

It's BIG, it’s beautiful, it's crowded, but for many it is worth it to see and feel what is billed as the biggest fireworks display west of the Mississippi River. (65,000 people attend this show) There is live musical entertainment during the day (starting at 11:00 AM) and it culminates in a coordinated fireworks display that is thunderous to say the least. You will feel the explosions throughout your whole body which can be awesome. If you are close enough to enjoy this event, the visual effect is also overwhelming as the entire sky explodes in brilliant colors. It is shown on TV, but that is nothing like seeing and feeling it right there. We're not going to even try to coax you with photos, (and we have a lot) because you just can't do it on this screen, a TV or even a screen the size of a Movie Theater. This big event is Wednesday July 4th 2007 and has some pretty big names for the musical entertainment. There a $4 per person suggested gate donation. While they say they won't turn you away without paying, that is really cheap considering the Fireworks alone run into 6 figures!

There are fair and festival type food and vendors.
You can bring a blanket and sit in the grassy field while listening and watching the shows.
This is the biggest Fireworks show in the Portland Vancouver area without a doubt and claimed to be the biggest west of the Mississippi. The fireworks show starts after dusk, around 10:00 PM.

This Fireworks Celebration is held at The Fort Vancouver National Historic Site 612 E. Reserve St (Map), but it is clearly visible from either side of the Columbia River and can be seen for miles. The only way to get the audible impact is up close but not necessarily inside of the Fort Vancouver Park area. There are places on both sides of the river where the audible impact is intense, but beware that almost all the streets by the river are closed.

The things you should know about this event:

  • A LOT of people come here and when it is over there is a major traffic jam with people trying to get home. There is a special service set up by C-Tran for bus service and using it is a good idea.
  • Many of Vancouver’s streets are closed so that you can not drive down close to the river where the fireworks are set off from a barge.
  • Parking prohibited near the event site and it is enforced. Don't get your car towed as it is expensive and it will ruin what otherwise is a fantastic event.
  • Parking is available in the downtown area of Vancouver, including street and lots. Keep in mind that the closer you are to the event and the later you come, the less chance you will have to get a good spot.
  • Most if not all Hotels & Motels have No Vacancy for the night of the fireworks. This is a smart idea, although it is going to cost you extra of course. If you want to plan for next years event, most hotels start taking reservations on January 1st. If you want to check availability of local Hotels / Motels, click here.
  • No alcohol, fireworks, pets, grills, tents, canopies, knives or weapons allowed!

If you "just" want to watch the fireworks, click here.

Go early and spend the day! The lawn of the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site is a great spot to throw down a blanket. While you’re there, you can check out Fort Vancouver, the Grant House and Marshall House on Officers Row.
